The Lagos State Waterways Authority has concluded plans to set up an emergency response unit (ERU) to address the issues of water transportation in the state.
Mr. Kayode Emmanuel, General-Manager of Lagos State Water Authority (LASWA) made this remark while speaking to News men in Lagos recently.
Mr. Emmanuel warned boat operators to put safety first in carrying out their operations as
they are dealing with human life. Mr. Emmanuel distributed about 1,000 life jackets to various groups of boat operators in the State.
The GM advised them not to overload their boats and avoid over speeding, as well as
embarking on night journey. He also called on commuters to always demand for life jacket from the boat operators before embarking on any journey. “ The State
government would not fail to sanction any operator who do not keep to the rules of engagement”.

effective security along the water ways to avoid attacks from criminals
