In its intensified efforts to nib in the bud, activities of economic saboteurs operating within the border way ,the Seme Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service said it has arrested five suspects in connection to various seizures in the last two months.

The Area Controller of  the command, Comptroller Mohammed  Uba Garba disclosed this  yesterday at the Command while parading news men round the various items seized through the intensified operations of his officers and men.

Garba disclosed that  a female suspect Shalewa Oyetunde, 35 years, was arrested with 5.9kg of Cannabis Sativa, who has been convicted for two years was one of the 5 suspects while notable among the suspects is a fake youth corp member using Nigerian diplomatic number to cross the border.

The suspect,  Abdul Umar, according to the Area Controller claimed to be a youth corp member  made  lots of allegation against high level place personnel’s in the country,  including an embassy.

 “The suspect claimed to be a member of Nigeria Youth Service Corp, claiming to have the personal telephone number of the Inspector General of Police.

“When our men stopped him at the border, he said, he went to drop someone. We asked him the documents he used to pass the border.  He brought out his telephone, claiming to have the number of the Police boss.

“After a search, documents where found showing that the vehicle is Renult model. When we asked his identity, he brought out his identity card, 2014 NYSC”.

“We called the Director of NYSC to confirm but the Director said that in such cases, they often collect the old ID card and issue a new one to the person for the current year. That was why we arrested him for further interrogation.”  Garba quipped.

Uba further disclosed that other seizures include 5,383 bags of 50kg foreign per boiled  rice which is equivalent to over 9 trucks with DPV 97,001,660, 68 parcels of Tramadol with DPV of N918, 000 and 10 parcels of cannabis which was handed over to the NDLEA,  180 sacks of scrap metals in Volvo FL7 truck with DPV of N8, 505, 000 were intercepted along Owode axis and other exotic cars.

Meanwhile the  command, within the period under review  generated the sum of one billion, two hundred and sixty million, six hundred and  eighty four thousand, two hundred and twenty six naira, ninety one kobo only (N1,260,684,226.91).
